Matt. 6:8
There is no better instructor on prayer than Jesus Christ himself.
The Lord’s Prayer (as quoted above from Matthew 6:8) lays a practical
foundation for establishing a prayer life with God. Upon this basis we
have constructed a prayer walk—a spiritual guideline through the
seven phases of the Lord’s pattern for prayer, interspersed with
periods of refreshing song and praise.
We invite you to take a prayer walk...
Please know that this Prayer Walk we present is a suggestion. We have
structured it according to a one-hour time allotment. The time segments
listed in each phase serve merely as a rhetorical guide. Feel free to
respond and participate in your own way and according to your own time
preferences.
Heavenly Father, My goal is to know You and to cultivate my relationship
with You. Help this time of prayer to be an occasion for me to praise
You, seek Your heart, and come to know You better. |
Our
Father which art in heaven…
(Phase I - Focusing on Reverence & Approach: 5 minutes)
The only way to hear God is to draw near to Him. A time of personal praise
and reflection will help to cast aside the weight of the world and usher
you into God’s presence. Spend some time listening and waiting upon
the Lord.
• Worship God in your own way.
You can approach God as His child and reverently communicate
your love to Him. He transcends heaven and earth to be a Father to His
Children.
• Remind God of who He is, and praise Him for what He means to you.
God is the Creator of the Universe, the King of all
Kings, and Lord of Lords. He is worthy of all praise. There is none
like Him.
• Thank and Praise God for His many blessings.
God gives exceedingly out of the abundance of His grace.
Thank Him for the gift of life, salvation, and mercy in each and every
day.
• Celebrate the relationship You Have with Him through the work
of His Son, Jesus Christ.
It is only through the death, burial, and resurrection
of Christ that we are able to come to God so boldly.
• Remember God’s magnificent purpose for you to be
His child.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made and beautiful
in God’s sight. He knew you before the world began and has a destiny
for your life.
• Rejoice in God’s love and His desire to reveal Himself
to you.
God wants to bring you into a deeper relationship with
Himself. His Holy Spirit ministers to your heart to convict, comfort, and
guide you closer into His presence. |
Hallowed
be Thy name…
(Phase II - Focusing on Worship, Praise, & Adoration: 5 minutes)
God has numerous names whereby He reveals Himself to us. As you hallow
(praise and glorify) each of His names, you will come to know Him better.
The blessing of each name will be made manifest in your life.
Below you will see just a few examples of some of the many names of God
as illustrated in the Bible. As you think on these names and their meanings, praise
God for the names he has defined in your own life. In your own words tell
Him, “God, (to me) your are…”
Yahweh
God is the “I am that I am”…He is the ever present, all-knowing,
all-powerful Father. His name cannot be contained within a single definition.
-
El Olam
The Everlasting God …He is without beginning or end.
- El Shaddai
God Almighty …He has all power and authority.
- Jehova Saboath

Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven…
(Phase III- Focusing on Ministry, Evangelism and Salvation:
5 minutes)
In prayer we have the opportunity to seek God and
His kingdom above all other kingdoms of this world.
Jesus said, “…seek first the kingdom of
God and His righteousness, and all these things [material]
will be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). If we
become seekers of God’s kingdom instead of the
kingdoms of this world, we become trustworthy of His
will and plan.
Tell God you desire to do His will today,
and pray that His kingdom be established in you.
- Repent
for everything in your life that may be contrary
to His righteousness. “Repent for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17). “He
who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is
who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved
by my Father,
and I will love him and manifest myself to him” (John
14:21).
- Be ready to obey God and His word. Obedience
reveals that His kingdom is established
in me.
- Be a Global Prayer Partner.
- Pray for:
- Revival
- Church Ministries
- Internet Ministries
- Missionaries
- Church Leaders
- National Leaders
- State Overseer & Council
- Local Pastor & Staff
- Ministry to Military
- Chaplains
- Members of your local church
- Government Officials: (World, National, State,
City, and County).

Sing and encourage yourself
in the Lord
(Phase IV- Encouraging yourself in the Lord: 5 minutes)
Psalm 96:1 says, “Sing unto the Lord a new song.” Sing to
the Lord whatever is in your heart. Lift up your voice. He delights to
hear you!
|
Give
us this day our daily bread…
(Phase V- Focusing on provision and intercession for others:
10 minutes)
God is our source for all things through Jesus Christ His Son. As a loving
Father, He enjoys meeting our daily physical, spiritual, and emotional
needs. Know that God cares about even the smallest detail in your life.
Use this time to speak specifically of the needs in your life and the lives
of others. Pray with Confidence and humility!
Pray for Financial needs
“Seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).
Pray for Physical needs
“But my God shall supply all your need according
to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
Pray for Healing from sickness & diseases.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the
chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Pray for people on any other prayer lists you may
have.
“According as his divine power He has hath given
unto us all things that pertain unto life
and godliness...” (2 Peter
1:3). (To review the prayer requests from the
International Prayer Center click here.) |
Quote or sing scriptures
(psalms) or read Proverbs
(Phase VI- Encouraging yourself in the Lord: 5 minutes)
Quote
your favorite faith-building scriptures. Continue to sing
to the Lord and refresh yourself in Him. “God inhabits the praises
of His people” (Psalm
22)! |
And
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors…
(Phase VII - Focusing on Repentance, Forgiveness and Pardoning:
5 minutes)
Pastor Clive Gopaul of Conquering through Prayer Ministries, in Durban,
South Africa, says, “If you don’t walk in repentance and forgiveness,
you don’t qualify for prayer.” That's a heavy statement, but
also a challenging one to live a life of repentance
and forgiveness.
This phase of the prayer walk deals with our confession and repentance
of sin and God’s forgiveness of our sins. We also forgive the
personal offenses of others.
God has a standing offer of grace to forgive us when we come to Him honestly
confessing our sins, and humbly requesting His forgiveness. 1 John 1:9
says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
However, God declares that our readiness to forgive others controls whether
or not we are able to receive His forgiveness. The Bible commands, “And
whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have
anything against any one; so that your Father also who is in heaven may
forgive you your trespasses” (Mark
11:25). And also: “So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also
unto you, if you from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their
trespasses” (Matthew
18:35). We can forgive because we are forgiven.
- Pray for forgiveness of your trespasses, debts, or sins.
- Ask the Lord to pardon or forgive others of their sins or trespasses.
- Repent of any prejudice, injustice, or abuse by yourself, your
family, or your country.
- Ask God to help you forgive others who have hurt you in any way.
|
Quote or read scripture.
(Phase VIII- Encouraging Yourself in the Lord: 5 minutes)
Build yourself up by reading God’s word. Again, sing songs to refresh
your spirit in worship. |
And
lead us not into temptation… but deliver us from evil…
(Phase IX - Focusing on Warfare, Guidance and Protection:
5 minutes)
This is a time to ask for God’s protection on your heart and mind.
Even Jesus Himself prayed for our protection: “I pray not that
You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from
the
evil” (John 17:15). As we pray, we find the spiritual strength to
obey the command of Romans 6:12-13: “Let not sin therefore reign
in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.
Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield
yourselves to God
as men who have been brought from death to life,
and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.”
- Pray for protection from temptation
- Pray for deliverance from trials, persecution and other hurtful
situations.
- Pray for our country to be protected from danger and the enemy.
- Pray for your family and loved ones to be protected.
- Pray for our churches and church families to be protected.
- Pray for our policemen, firemen and armed forces and other public
servants
- Thank God for protecting you and your loved ones from evil this
day.

For
thine is the kingdom…and
the power…and the glory…forever. Amen.
(Phase X - Focusing on praise and victory: 5 minutes)
As you emerge from your spiritual prayer walk, gain a godly perspective
for the day. In your heart, put the kingdom of God ahead of all the kingdoms
of the world. Revel in the fact that God is all-powerful. He gives
us the power to walk according to His Word. Jesus commissioned us: “But
you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost
is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea, and
in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the
earth” (Acts 1:8).
Ask for a fresh infilling of His Holy Spirit.
Give all the glory and praise to God.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory
and honor and power: for thou hast created
all things, and for they pleasure they are and
were
created” (Revelation 4:11). “Worthy
is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and
riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and
glory, and blessing ” (Revelation
5:12).
“That at the Name of Jesus every knee should
bow, of things in heaven, and things
in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father ” (Philippians
2:10-11).
Commit to living a victorious life in Jesus.
Rejoice in Him!!!
